Obituary of Betty Coisson Bush

Betty Coisson Bush Betty Coisson Bush, wife of Ivan Bush of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2018 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was born November 22, 1929, the daughter of Attilio and Celine Cairus Coisson. Betty grew up in New York City in a close-knit community of the First Waldensian Church of NY. She is a graduate of the Katherine Gibbs School of Secretarial & Executive Training in NYC, and worked at the Rockefeller Institute and IBM. On December 22, 1953 she married Ivan, a USAF pilot, and eventually settled in Xenia, Ohio to raise their family. Betty was a wife, mother, part-time executive secretary, and had a creative & artistic side, often teaching classes in various needle arts. While living in Xenia, Betty and her family spent many summers at Lucerne-in-Maine deepening relations with dear friends, and eventually built a summer home for retirement. They relocated to Hilton Head Island, SC, where she was active in the Philanthropic Education Organization (P.E.O.), The Yacht Club of Hilton Head Island, The Bargain Box, and The Arts Center. She spent many happy hours with friends playing Bridge, Mah Jongg, and creating miniatures. She is remembered by her many friends from Maine to South Carolina as someone who had an infectious laugh and sense of humor, always willing to help, a model hostess, a humble spirit, and truly devoted friend. Betty was predeceased by her parents and older brother Guido Coisson. She is survived by Ivan, her husband of 65 years, her brother Robert Coisson of Ulster Park, NY, her children Laura Celine Bush of Bluffton, SC, Bob (& Betsy) Bush of Glastonbury, CT, and Libbie (& Kris) Anderson of Phippsburg, Maine, and affectionately known as “Blueberry Grandma” by her grandchildren; Alyson Soward, Daniel, Jenny, and Anna Bush, and Max, Greta, and Gus Anderson. Memorial services will be held at the Cypress of Hilton Head on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Graveside services will be at a later date in Highland Mills, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations for the P.E.O. STAR Scholarship may be made out to P.E.O. Chapter V, and sent to Elaine Shinn, 43 Oyster Reef Dr. HHI, SC, 29926, or to a charity of your choice.
