Obituary of Leslie Hecky Grace

Leslie Hecky Grace passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 30, 2018 at the age of 52. She was born April 21, 1965 in Akron, Ohio. She is survived by her husband Charles Edward Grace, mother Patricia Tucker Hecky, father Larry Richard Hecky, step mother Anita Beck Hecky, sister Kelley Hecky Cosby, brother-in-law William Nowlin Cosby, nephew William Woodson Cosby, niece Caroline Armstrong Cosby, sister-in-law Sandra Gale Grace and brother-in-law Christopher Andrew Grace. Leslie attended high school in Akron and on Hilton Head Island and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina. Leslie spent almost 30 years in the retail plant and landscaping business. From getting her hands dirty with the customer to designing and executing landscape plans, Leslie was not only bookkeeping and business management, but brought something to almost every aspect of the business. A greener thumb would be tough to find. Leslie enjoyed indoor and outdoor plants and kept a garden plot when time allowed. Leslie’s way with kittens and cats earned her the title “The Cat Whisperer.” She bottle-fed and found homes for numerous needy kittens. She provided a safe home, medical treatment and care until a forever home could be found for many cats. Many times that “forever home” was her own. Leslie’s special interests included the collection of vintage clothing and jewelry, vintage kitchenware, mid-century dinnerware and California pottery. A remembrance will be held on her birthday, April 21, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Island Funeral Home and Crematory, 4 Cardinal Road, Hilton Head Island, 29926.
