Obituary of Jean Galbreath Allen

Jean Galbreath Allen passed away on Feb. 2, 2018. She was born March 2, 1934 in Baltimore, MD to Jean and C. Irwin Galbreath. Jean attended school in Swarthmore PA, and then the Univ. of Delaware and Peirce School of Business. She worked for the Ladies Home Journal magazine until her marriage in 1958. Jean was a charter member of the Penn’s Newtown Questers, active in volunteering at Pickering Manor Nursing Home, and her beloved miniature club. She and her husband Bob spent years restoring a 200-year-old grist mill, making it into their home. In 1994 she and Bob moved to Moss Creek Plantation in Hilton Head, SC. Jean was active in the Low Country Questers and Hilton Head Miniaturists. She was a docent at the Heyward House in Bluffton for many years. In 2008 Jean and Bob moved to the Seabrook, a retirement community on the Island, making wonderful new friends, enjoying not having to cook and learning Mah Jongg. Jean is survived by her son Scott Allen and his wife Cynthia of Anchorage, AK, and her grandchildren Michael Solomon, Christopher Solomon and Sarah Jean Moss, and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Heather Jean Solomon, and her husband, Robert J. Allen. A celebration of life will be held at The Seabrook on Hilton Head Island on Tues., Feb. 13th at 4:15pm, with reception to follow.
