Elizabeth Beck

Obituary of Elizabeth Beck

Elizabeth Jean Beck, 89, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Orwell, VT entered into eternal peace at Bloom at Belfair on Tuesday, December 26, 2017. “Betty” was born on May 7, 1928 in Rutland, VT to King and Gertrude (McCormick) Burnell. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 35 years, TJ Beck in 1984 and daughter Heather Beck in 1986. Betty is survived by her daughter Lisa Beck of North Port, FL, son Christian Beck and daughter in-law Jennifer (Garson) Beck of Hilton Head Island, SC, grandson’s Lucas and Nathan Fallon (Kasey) of Kenton, OH and Vergennes, VT, Taylor and Curtis Beck of Greenville, SC, and granddaughters Emily Beck of Charleston, SC and Tessa Beck of Hilton Head Island, SC. Although Betty lived in many places – Albany, NY, Stockbridge, MA, Chicago, IL, Hilton Head Island, SC; Essex Center, N. Ferrisburgh and Middlebury, VT, she considered only Orwell, VT her home and she will be greatly missed by her many friends and family across the Champlain Valley. Later in life she worked as a switchboard operator at Middlebury College and developed many close friendships with her co-workers in the security office there. A lifelong pet lover, she was rarely seen without one of her beloved dogs by her side. Betty was a devout Christian and belonged to many churches throughout her lifetime. She was a great student of God’s word and attended bible study regularly with her close friends. She gathered her strength from the authority of God’s word which helped her through the challenging early stages of dementia. The Beck family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bloom at Belfair and Memory Matters, and caregivers Marisol Bedon and Juanita Thompson. A memorial service will take place in Vermont at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to Memory Matters (PO Box 22330, Hilton Head, SC, 29925) or the Addison County Humane Society (236 Boardman Street, Middlebury, VT 05753).
