Obituary of Raymond Breitwieser

Raymond Joseph Breitwieser Loving and Devoted Husband, Pop, Pop Pop, Uncle, and Friend. Hilton Head Island, SC- Raymond Joseph Breitwieser, formerly of Ridgewood, NJ, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on October 27th, 2017. He was the beloved husband and high school sweetheart of the late Anne Breitwieser, to whom he was married for 60 years. Ray was born on June 25th, 1929, at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ. After graduating from Rutgers University and marrying the love of his life, Ray served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952-54. Ray worked for the Frank A. McBride Company for 59 years and retired as CFO. While residing in Ridgewood, Ray was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for 30 years. He enjoyed bringing communion to the homebound, was a founding member of the Perpetual Eucharist Adoration Society, and volunteered at Eva’s Kitchen. He also served on the funeral committee where he helped families in times of deepest sorrow plan and facilitate their loved one’s funeral. After moving to Hilton Head Island, Anne and Ray became parishioners of Saint Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. Ray was proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed the camaraderie of ROMEO’s. He was passionate about his spiritual faith and giving back to others. As a Eucharistic Minister, he loved distributing communion at Broad Creek Care Center as well as serving as a visiting friend. Ray had a special place in his heart for the elderly and was very passionate about making sure they knew they were loved and had not been forgotten. Ray had a special gift of making people smile. He loved to laugh and was notorious for giving the best gag gifts. His smile, humor, and laugh will be deeply missed. Family was everything to Ray. He devoted his life to his late wife Anne, his children, and his grandchildren. He is survived by his four children and their spouses—Patricia and Richard Horlbeck of Hilton Head Island, SC, William and Christine Breitwieser of Oakland, NJ, Raymond Jr. and Janice Breitwieser of Coral Springs, FL, and MaryLou and Tim Cherney of Brewerton, NY.
