Obituary of Edward Leviathan McCall

Edward McCall Edward “Ed” McCall, 95, of Hilton Head, SC, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017, at his home. Ed never knew a stranger and as husband, father, grandfather and friend, he was much loved and will be greatly missed. Ed McCall was born November 23, 1921 in Hendersonville, SC. Orphaned at an early age, he and his brother Bob spent their early years with various family members in the Asheville, NC, area before moving to Washington, DC, to enroll in an Electronics Trade School. Ed spent four years in the Navy during World War II playing a vital role in code breaking for the US Armed Forces. Having worked for IBM for forty-three years, Ed had a variety of responsibilities. He started out as a Customer Engineer for the Navy Department during WW II. He then became a Plant Manager of six manufacturing plants and a Country Production Manager of IBM Brazil. His final position with IBM was as Director of Labor Relations for the entire corporation. His responsibilities with IBM took him worldwide, working in North and South America, Europe and Asia before his retirement in 1983. After retirement, fond childhood memories brought him back to his native South Carolina in 1978 to start building his dream retirement home in Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island. He and his wife, Millie, spent many happy years of retirement until her death in 1988. Ed was lucky enough to find his second love, Elaine (Cereghini) Brogan. He and Elaine were married in 2000 and spent their time traveling the world and enjoying their life together on Hilton Head Island. Ed is survived by his wife Elaine Brogan-McCall of Hilton Head, SC, his daughter Linda (Ed) Matthews of Alpharetta, GA, his son Michael (Jean) McCall of Flower Mound, TX, and his granddaughter Ashley (Ahmed) Matthews Mohamed of Alpharetta, GA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 11:00 am at Beaufort VA National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, SC 29902.
