Obituary of Mary Richardson

Our beloved Mimi (family name for Mary) passed on September 27 at the age of 107, withdrawing into the peace of old age. She is endeared to all family members and many friends following 24 years at the TidePointe Community on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Mary was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was born Mary Alice Liken in Knoxville, Illinois on July 12, 1911. She was predeceased by one brother, Richard Liken. After schooling in Illinois and Spokane, Washington, Mary attended Knox College in Illinois. Upon moving to New York, she met and married Albert Springsteen in 1935. After moving to Ohio, Mary and Al raised two children: Jane Blyth (Whitehall, Michigan); and Bruce Springsteen (Braselton, Georgia). Mary and Al moved to Hilton Head in 1972. After the Al’s death in 1984, Mary married Philip Richardson in 1987, and he died in 1995. Mary is survived by her daughter Jane and her son Bruce, a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren from Georgia, Michigan, and states from Massachusetts to Oregon (One great grandchild is a Peace Corps volunteer in Kyrgyzstan.) Mimi enjoyed her family at gatherings during spring break at Hilton Head, including a wonderful 100-year-old birthday celebration. Mary was an unusually active and supportive member of TidePointe’s extended family for the past 24 years. Known for her loving nature, she endeared herself to all, and will be missed by many.
