Raymond Cook Angell of Hilton Head passed away on August 31, 2018 at the age of 83. He was a loving husband, father, pap pap and friend.
Ray was born January 1, 1935 in Pittsburgh, PA, along with his twin brother Rob, to parents William Raymond Angell and Dorothy Ida (Jones) Angell. Ray excelled in athletics during his youth.
While at the University of Pittsburgh, Ray met Lois Arlene Riegler (Lois Angell) and the couple married on June 9, 1957. After earning a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Ray was employed for his career by Babcock and Wilcox and retired as VP and GM of the Tubular Products Division.
Ray and Lois retired to Hilton Head Island where they joined First Presbyterian Church and Ray began volunteering at The Heritage Golf Tournament. Over the course of his 25+ years with The Heritage, Ray advanced from a marshal to General Volunteer Chairman. As Lois’ health declined, Ray’s affection for her was visible in his tender attention to her every need. Ray’s devotion never wavered.
Ray is survived by his loving daughter Susan and her husband Mark Potenzone, his loving son Thomas and his wife Clea (Rodwan) Angell, and his three adoring grandchildren, Max Angell, Lucy Angell, and Christine Potenzone.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church Hilton Head on September 6, 2018 at 10:00am with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Volunteers In Medicine or First Presbyterian Church.
