Richard Bellmer

Obituary of Richard L. Bellmer

Richard L. Bellmer, age 74, of Hilton Head Island, SC died very suddenly on June 18, 2018. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Garden City, Long Island. Dick attended Garden City High School and graduated from East Carolina University. He was Navy veteran. He founded his company, Deerfield Financial Advisors in 1985. Worth Magazine and Medical Economics recognized him several times as one of the top financial advisors in the country. He was named by Indianapolis Monthly “Five Star Wealth Managers” for 4 years. He was quoted in the Wall Street Journal, MSN Money Central, the Indianapolis Star, Morningstar Investors and Dow Jones Investment Advisors. He was featured in video reports with WSJ and Fox News. Dick served as Adjunct Faculty member for College of Financial Planning and on the Exam Written committee for the CFP Board of Standards. He was Midwest Regional Board Member, Midwest Board, Midwest Board Director and Chairman of the National Board of Directors of NAPFA. Dick was awarded the most prestigious honor, the Distinguished Service Award. He was recognized by NAPFA in its 30 most influential people in the United States. After his second retirement he joined his wife Pat at their Hilton Head, SC home where he began his dream of setting up all his G scale trains and villages outside. He also loved building aircraft and ship models. He was a most generous man with his love, knowledge, energy, intelligence and time. He mentored many young people beginning in his profession. Dick was often seen walking his dog “Milo”. They were a pair who took long walks in the neighborhood while stopping to chat with neighbors. Dick is survived by his wife Patricia Bryant Bellmer; brother, William Bellmer of Garden City, NY and sister, Laura O’Neil of Setauket, NY. I consider myself as the most blessed and honored woman for whom he chose to live and share his life. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory. Islandfuneralhome.com.
