Obituary of Dorothy Holmes Anderson

Dorothy Holmes Anderson Dorothy Holmes Anderson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the age of 98 at the Frasier Medical Center, Hilton Head, SC. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio. As a child, she had dyslexia and never read a book until she was in the 7th grade. This fueled her desire to help children learn. She taught in the Parma School system and served as Principal of Ridge-Brook Elementary School and Forrest Elementary School where blind children were integrated into the classrooms. She traveled the world, and an African Safari was her favorite adventure. Dorothy Anderson retired to Hilton Head Island in 1978 where she continued her life of service. She served as president on the boards of the American Association of University Women, Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry, Hilton Head League of Women Voters. She was on the boards of the HH Garden Club and Herb Society and was Chairman of Youth Awards for Women’s Association of HHI. She married her childhood sweetheart, Alfred Anderson, in 1996, and they moved from her home in Sea Pines to The Seabrook retirement community. Dorothy was elected the first woman president of the Seabrook Board of Trustees. A Celebration of her Life will be held at The Seabrook in Hilton Head on June 25th at 4:00 PM. Dorothy’s family, Susan & Jim Rose, will be there to greet and share memories with her many friends. She will be buried in Olmsted Falls, Ohio. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory.
