Obituary of Wilfred and Cora Story

Wilfred H. (Bill) Story, Jr. 1915 – 2018 Cora Schmid Story 1917 – 2011 Hilton Head lost one of its oldest citizens on May 9, 2018 when Wilfred H. (Bill) Story, Jr passed away at 103. He and his wife, Cora Schmid Story, moved to Hilton Head in 1978. Cora predeceased Bill having passed away on August 14, 2011. The couple had been married for 73 years. Bill and Cora are survived by their daughter, Elaine Story Flanagan and her husband Bryan Flanagan of Hilton Head and a grandson, Andrew Flanagan of Rockville, MD. Bill was a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology. He was a retired Lieutenant Commander having served in the US Navy during World War II with duty stations in Charleston, SC and Pearl Harbor, HI. He was also active in the US Navy Reserve for many years. After the war, Bill joined Johns-Manville where he worked for 35 years. He spent the majority of his career as an Aerospace Sales Engineer having worked on projects such as the F-15, the Lunar Excursion Module, the Apollo spacecraft and the Space Shuttle. Prior to starting her family, Cora was a key member of the Purchasing organization at Whalen Drug in New York City. Subsequently, she joined Product Advertising Corporation, a Madison Avenue advertising firm, where she rose to the position of Corporate Secretary and counted the famous comedian Jackie Gleason amongst her friends and clients. Bill will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date where he will join his dear wife Cora.
