Obituary of Laura Bower Johnson

Laura Bower Johnson of Hilton Head passed away May 5, 2018. She was born in Yokohama, Japan, April 13, 1922 to Margaret Moss and William Bower. She spent her early years in Japan, China and Singapore where her father was involved in International Banking. Her family later moved to Rolling Hills, California where she graduated from Banning High School and UCLA, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was a War Bride, marrying her high school sweetheart, Neal Johnson while he was home on leave from the Navy in the South Pacific. They were happily married for 68 years before he passed away in 2013. After the war they lived in California where their three children were born. In 1958 the family moved to West Hartford Connecticut where they lived for 43 years before moving to Hilton Head and The Seabrook in 2001. They lived an active life in Connecticut, skiing in the winter and sailing in the summer. She volunteered at Hartford Hospital for maars and was on the Board of several Civic and Volunteer organizations. She and her husband loved living in Hilton Head and spent many happy years at The Seabrook, being involved in organizations there. She is survived by her son and his wife, David and Anita Johnson of Destin, Florida and her daughter and her husband Joan and John Larson of Bluffton, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
