Anne Scott

Obituary of Anne M Scott

Long time Hilton Head Island resident, Anne M. Scott, died at Broad Creek Care Center, Hilton Head Island, SC on December 19, 2018 following a lengthy illness.

Anne M. Scott was born in Albany, NY, March 11, 1922, the daughter of Francis J. Smith and Mary Elizabeth McCann Smith.  Anne spent her early life in upstate New York until she met and married her husband, Robert G. Scott, III.  At the end of World War II, they relocated to northern New Jersey where Anne was kept busy raising their three children.  In the early 60’s, Anne, Bob and their family relocated to the Chicago area where Bob and Anne resided until moving permanently to Hilton Head Island in 1969.

During her lifetime, Anne donated her time and enthusiastic spirit to a variety of worthy organizations.  Whether she was driving patients to their doctor’s appointments for the Red Cross, volunteering in local nursing homes and hospitals, or leading her daughters’ Brownie and Girl Scout troops, she always managed to bring an indomitable spirit to the challenges at hand.

After moving to Hilton Head, Anne became an avid golfer, enthusiastic member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, supportive partner in her husband’s cable television business and devoted, founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Anne is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Robert G. Scott, as well as four siblings.  She leaves behind three children, Robert G. Scott IV, of Naples, FL, Andrea S. Holt of University Place, WA and Catherine F. Scott of Boulder, CO.  Anne also leaves behind a legacy of 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Hilton Head Island on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM.  A Celebration of Life will take place in Lynchburg, VA next spring when both Anne’s and Bob’s ashes will be reinterred in the Scott Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Hilton Head Island Audubon Society.
