Obituary of Barbara W. Clark

Barbara Rona Uttal Weston Clark, born to Robert and Ida Uttal on July 19, 1927 in New York City, passed away on January 7, 2020 in Hilton Head, SC. She developed strong friendships early in life, adding many as years passed, holding her friends close until the end. When she left us at age 92, she had outlived most of her old friends.

She married Myron (Mike) Weston in 1946 and together they opened Uttal’s Luggage and Leather Goods in Yonkers, NY. They settled in Mt. Vernon, NY, where she grew up and graduated from Davis High School. When their three children were out of college and independent, they sold the store, bought an RV and set off to see the country, ending up in Mexico for the winter. They fell in love with the Lake Chapala area, came back, sold the house, sold the RV, and moved to the Chapala/Ajijic area Mexico, where they enjoyed their early retirement, participating in one of the most vibrant artistic expat communities in Mexico.

Not one to remain idle, she joined family friend and fellow expat, Theodore (Ted) Clark, and opened Barbara's Bazaar, a consignment store in Ajijic in 1985. After Ted moved back to the US and Mike passed away, she sold the store and after 23 years in Mexico, left for Florida in 1994.  Barbara's Bazaar continues to thrive in Ajijic where it is recognized as one of the top local attractions. Soon after arriving in Florida, Barbara married her dear friend, Ted Clark, a widower. They enjoyed 25 years together, moving from Florida to Hilton Head, SC, about a year and a half ago to be near her sister, Maxine. 

Barbara is survived by her husband, Ted; her children: Steven Weston (Cherie) , Marian Weston (Bill Aghassi), and Amy-Jo Gamon; four loving grandchildren: Alec Weston, Rachel Aghassi, Eli Aghassi (Hannah Cary), and Jeff Gamon (Kelley) four adorable great-grandchildren: Jude, Rainey, Jack, and Benny; her sister Maxine Uttal and sisters-in-law Ellie Uttal and Lee Hardy; nephews and nieces, Susan Uttal, Mathew Uttal, Peter Uttal, Miriam Noble, Melanie Bloom, Shari Simberkoff, Eric Weston, Michael Weston, Michael Hardy, Edward Hardy, Maggie Hardy, and many cherished cousins, and other beloved family and friends. Predeceased by her parents, first husband, and brother William Uttal. 

Family always came first for Barbara. She had a smile that shined, a comfortable shoulder to lean on, and an easy countenance that invited you to share. She lived life to the fullest, touched so many profoundly, was loved by many, and will be deeply missed.

The funeral will be held in the Chapel in the Woods at Congregation Kol Ami, 252 Soundview Avenue, White Plains, NY, this Sunday, January 12, at 10:30 am. Her interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Memorials are preferred to Hadassah, The Nature Conservancy, and The American Heart Association.
