To Cate's family. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one. I was looking through older dates of the Island Packet this morning and I always look at the obituaries. I dropped the paper. There was a picture of a high school classmate, Cate. I was in the Fairmont West Class of 1967 with Cate. I regret that I cannot be considered a friend, but we were acquaintances. Enough to say hello to each other. And I knew she was a smart person because she was taking Latin. My memory was that she was an extremely smart, nice person who was kind to everyone. Someone who your parents would have loved to meet. I read with interest her educational and professional attainments. I knew at the time that she was a worker and a doer. There were a lot of classmates who were neither. I am glad that your family had a life time full of interaction and love with her and that her niece and nephew were a large part of her life. I regret now the missed opportunities back in our youth for a question, a smile or a kind word that I might have done better. Seeing her picture is certainly a sad occasion, but it brought back to me fond memories of a time and a fellow classmate. My wife and I retired to the Bluffton, SC area in January, 2015. We visited Fairmont in February, 2020 for an Athletic Hall of Fame enshrinement for my wife. Visiting the campus again reminded us of how fortunate we all were growing up at that time and place. Our sincerest condolences to your family.
