Dominic “Dom” Petrelli died in his home on Hilton Head Island, SC, on December 29, 2020. He was 64.
Mr. Petrelli was born on July 2, 1956 in Pittsburgh, PA to his parents, Richard and Virginia (Abraham) Petrelli. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1972; earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Point Park College in 1992; a master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management from Duquesne University in 1995; and an MBA from Duquesne University in 1997. Dom married Charlene Gambino of Jefferson Hills, PA in 2002. He worked as a National Air Space Manager for the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, in Pittsburgh, PA. The Petrellis retired and moved to Hilton Head in June 2019.
Described as “the big man with the big heart,” Dom never met a stranger and made lasting friendships quickly. His gregarious personality filled the room, and he was loved by so many – especially children, who he connected with and related to on their level. A bit of a renaissance man, Dom loved entertaining friends and family. He especially loved cooking for them and made the best omelettes, lasagna, and grape leaves. Dom lived life to the fullest and on his own terms. He died at peace and without regret.
Mr. Petrelli is survived by his wife Charlene of Hilton Head Island, SC; his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lydia of Bloomington, IN; his son Nicholas and daughter Liza of Beaver, PA; and four grandsons.
In accordance with Dom’s wishes, services will be private. Everyone who remembers Dom and wishes to celebrate his life is asked to raise a martini glass in toast – Ketel One Vodka, dry, a little dirty, with an olive garnish.
