Obituary of Harriet Saltz Slovin

Harriet Saltz Slovin passed away on May 1st, 2021 at the age of 93. The daughter of Jeanne and Jack Saltz, she was born in New York City. Harriet was the beloved wife of Lawrence Monroe Slovin (deceased) of 64 years, and a devoted daughter, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Harriet graduated from James Monroe High School, Bronx, NY in 1945 and Hunter College in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology. Harriet and Larry were married in 1949 and moved to Huntington Station, Long Island, New York.  Harriet and Larry lived in both Huntington Station/Huntington for 33 years and spent their summers in Hampton Bays, NY on the Great Peconic Bay for 38 years.  Harriet and Larry became snow birds and spent their winters in Bradenton, FL for 25 years.  Harriet and Larry enjoyed their twilight years in Hilton Head Island, SC.

Harriet loved to travel. Every year was packed with adventures for Harriet and Larry.  From England, Italy, Scandinavia, Austria, Mexico, a picture taking safari in Kenya, France, Spain, Greece, China, Japan [many times to visit family], Thailand, Israel, Canada and numerous trips with Merrill Lynch – Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Southern California.

Harriet enjoyed decorating, sewing, entertaining, fashion and raising her three children.  She was an amazing seamstress and helped her eldest daughter, Margie, sew her wedding dress. Harriet painted and wallpapered the entire interior of her first house. Harriet was a great facilitator. When Harriet wanted something done, she made sure it happened.

Harriet and Larry loved opera. They attended operas at the NYC Metropolitan Opera and in Sarasota, Florida.

Harriet is survived by three children—Margie (Craig Fendley), Bob (Debbie Slovin) and Fran (David Ritter).  She is also survived by her sister, Sandra Cohen and her brother in law and sister in law – Allan and Sandy Slovin.  Harriet had five grandchildren; Joshua (Anna), Gabriel, Matthew, Jack and Lucy and three great grandchildren; Jameson, Grant and Grace.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Bloom at Hilton Head, Life Care and Sr. Health Associates for their care of Mom.

A zoom based memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Harriet’s honor to the charity of your choice.
