Obituary of Thomas A. Rego

Thomas A. Rego, 82, of Hilton Head Island, SC passed away on Wednesday December 15, 2021 at his home. Tom was born in Cleveland, OH, a longtime resident of Westlake, OH and later Medina, OH. He was the son of Joseph and Nancy Rego. A loving husband for nearly 62 years, he is survived by his wife, Marilyn and his children Richard Rego, Pamela (Rego) Kutsick and Suzanne (Rego) Milbourn. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, sister Anne Rego, and brothers Anthony Rego and David Rego. Tom was an executive in the supermarket industry for his entire career in Cleveland. The family owned Rego’s Supermarkets expanded during this time from one store founded by his father and uncles to a vertically integrated 35 stores and wholesale warehouse operation that was publicly traded as RISER Foods before being taken private by Giant Eagle in 1997. Tom and his wife formally retired to Hilton in 2000.

Tom was on the board of Regina Health Center in Richfield, OH during his years in Medina and especially enjoyed his role in the Holy-In-One golf tournament at Firestone Nation that raises money to support its mission. In retirement he continued to enjoy golf as a member of Dolphin Head Country Club and was a board member for his neighborhood association. 

Tom will be cremated.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church on Hilton Head on February 5, 2022 at 10am.
