Beth Scannell

Obituary of Beth Ann Scannell

Beth Ann Scannell passed on to heaven on January 21, 2022 on Hilton Head Island, SC.   She was surrounded by Love; the same Love she so freely gave to all around her, every moment of her life.

Beth Ann was born in Philadelphia PA on December 6, 1967 to Mike and Liz Chitwood, who blessed her with a wonderful childhood full of friends, family, laughter, adventures, and Love.  Beth attended St Maria Goretti High School and Holy Family College, launching her into a career in both finance and marketing, which she excelled at, before taking up her true calling of being a Mom.

Beth met her husband Bob Scannell, who lived 2000 miles away, through what could only be fate, and after a brief time of cross-country dating, they were married on December 19, 1992.  The happy couple lived in CA before moving to Greensboro NC, to eventually start and raise their wonderful family.   Beth and Bob were blessed with two beautiful children, first Kayley, then Kyle.  As a family, they shared and grew their Love with continuous adventures, including many terrific memories at their special place in Boone NC.

Beth Ann devoted her life to loving others, and finding Joy in every moment.   She supported many good causes including the North Carolina Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Guilford Interfaith Hospitality Network, and numerous activities at the kid’s schools.  She made fast and wonderful friendships wherever she went, with ease, and shared her Love, Generosity, and Fun Spirit with all.  She IS a devoted and superb Mother, to Kayley and Kyle, and to many of their friends as well, as a ‘second Mom’.

The family eventually moved to Hilton Head Island, to be close to Beth’s favorite spot, the Beach.  Beth led the charge in establishing a blessed home, and new and enduring friendships.

Beth bravely battled ALS the last three years, and never gave up the fight. Her smile was never missing, and her Love shined brighter than ever.  We all have a new Angel, and Beth’s many blessings, including her Love, her Joy, and her Compassion will live on forever.

Beth is survived by her soul mate Bob, her children Kayley and Kyle, her parents Mike and Liz, her brother Michael, and her puppy Luna.

Beth Ann will be celebrated with a funeral mass and reception at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, Hilton Head Island, on Wednesday February 2nd at 1pm.  All are welcome to attend.
