Obituary of Lynn Marie Baskin

Lynn Marie Baskin, 79, of Hilton Head Island died on March 29, 2022, at her home after a four-year battle with cancer. Born on December 8, 1942, in Staten Island, NY to Helen Hugo Thompson and Leonard Thompson. Lynn’s husband of 59 years, John, survives her. Lynn attended Shephard College (now Shephard University) in Leesburg, Va. While a summer lifeguard at the Patuxent Navel airbase, Lynn met John, then a Navy pilot in training. Lynn and John married after 6 weeks of courtship at the Patuxent Navel Air Base in 1963 when Lynn was 20 years old.

Lynn’s passion for travel was aided by her husband’s time as a Navy pilot and later as a pilot for Pan American Airlines. Lynn visited every state in the United States and traveled to over 60 countries. She loved Tehran, Iran before 1978, Istanbul, Turkey, and Berlin, Germany. She enjoyed the hot baths in Reykjavik, Iceland, and eating curries in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Lynn moved with her family to Hilton Head in 1972 and seemed to know everyone on Hilton Head through her roles at the Island Packet, Island Events, Melrose, Bloody Point, and Charter One Realty. She served two terms on the Port Royal Homeowners Association Board of Directors. After her retirement, she volunteered with Deep Well and as a reading tutor at Hilton Head Elementary School. Lynn was an avid windsurfer and reader of history and fiction.

Lynn is survived by her husband, John, her two daughters, Brenda Boultwood of Edgewater, MD and Karen Duggan of Panama City Beach, FL; two brothers, Robert Thompson of Seattle WA and Bill Thompson of Tallahassee, FL, as well as two granddaughters, Georgina O’Neal of Atlanta, GA and Caroline Creasy in school in Groton, MA.

Lynn’s spirit will be remembered at a Celebration of Life Ceremony at The Port Royal Beach Club on May 21, 2022. All are welcome to attend and tell their stories of Lynn. To RSVP, please email bboultwood@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, please donate to https://www.deepwellproject.org/donate.
