On April 19, 2022, Gail Rosenthal Titus of Bluffton passed away at her home in Rose Hill.  She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jim Titus and by her son, Jason (Amy Guptill) of Rochester, NY.  Also surviving are her grandsons D.J. and Arlen Guptill Titus.  She was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and adopted to Pittsburgh as an infant.  At the age of 53, she was reunited with her birth family and is survived by three half siblings living in Nova Scotia:  LaVerne Porter (Gerald), Kenn Bigelow (Sarah) and Fred Bigelow (Valerie).  She is predeceased by her parents, Rachel and Daniel Rosenthal, and her daughter, Jodi Titus Lee.

Gail was a graduate of the University of Florida and worked for many years in the Endocrine Research Laboratory and later in the Protein Research Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh.  She volunteered at the Pittsburgh Zoo and was awarded a life time membership in the Docent Council there.  She also volunteered at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh.  She was an avid opera enthusiast and served on the Board of Friends of Pittsburgh Opera.  She was a charter member of the Pittsburgh Deaf Blind Lions Club.  She was a supporter of the Hilton Head Symphony and the Young Artists Performances Program of Hilton Head.  She and her husband were season ticket holders for the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Pittsburgh Symphony, and the Pittsburgh Opera.

She and her husband moved from Pittsburgh to Bluffton in 2017.  She was a member of Congregation Beth Yam in Hilton Head.  Gail enjoyed cruising and traveling with her husband.  The cane that she used as a walking assist is affixed with the medallions she collected from her travels.  Several times a year, Gail and Jim would head to Pittsburgh or to Rochester, NY or to Nova Scotia to be with family and friends.

The family would like to thank the caring folks from Hospice Care of the Low Country for their support during Gail’s illness.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Pittsburgh Opera, 2425 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222 or to the Endowment Fund of Congregation Beth Yam, 4501 Meeting Street, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926.
