Dr. Jody Pickle

Obituary of Dr. Jody Pickle

Dr. Jody Lynn Pickle, age 64, passed away on August 8, 2022. She was at home, surrounded by

family and love. It was a peaceful, but all too soon, goodbye.

Jody was admired for being unapologetically herself. She has been lovingly described as a force, a principled and highly skilled advocate, a thoughtful and generous friend, and a total bada**, with a playful and deeply irreverent sense of humor.

Jody was born in Ann Arbor, MI and raised in Cleveland, OH. There, Jody discovered her life-long love of horses and animals. In between graduating from West Geauga High School and Ohio State University, Jody rode professionally on the hunter-jumper circuit. Jody would then meet her “honey”, Richie, and welcome their twin daughters, Amanda and Marissa, into the world. For a woman of many accomplishments, raising her daughters would always be her greatest achievement.

Driven by her love of science and learning, Jody went on to graduate from Cleveland State University and Kent State University, receiving her M.A. and Ph.D., respectively, in Psychology. Jody concentrated her work in clinical and forensic neuropsychology. In 2005, she founded Memory & Psychological Services, in Brecksville, OH. The practice provides neuropsychological clinical services to patients with psychological disorders and traumatic brain injuries, psychotherapy, and forensic evaluations for criminal and civil legal matters. Jody worked tirelessly to be an expert in her field and to train the next generation of psychologists.

Jody came alive when riding her horse, King. She also loved painting, teasing her husband over a glass of Dewar’s on the rocks, and taking walks with her dogs and beloved friends. Jody and her husband loved traveling to visit their daughters and embarking on grand adventures (including attending the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan and multiple venues in Tanzania in 2017).

In the summer of 2020, Jody was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer. She battled the disease for more than two years and never gave up.

Jody is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Richard Sims; her twin daughters, Amanda (John) Francis and Marissa (Jason) Sims; her parents, Barbara and Larry Pickle, her sister Laurie (Ian) Pickle Evans, her brothers Jeff (Tina) Pickle and Brad (Teri) Pickle, her aunt Carol (Jack) Voss; her uncle Gary Pickle; her dog, Addie; and her horse, King. Jody is predeceased by her grandparents, Marcella and Robert Hartz, and Martha and Robert Sadler, and many beloved pets.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, the Secretariat Center, or the Patient Access Network Foundation. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family at https://everloved.com/life-of/jody-pickle/.

Jody: Ride like the wind; we’ll see you in the stars.
