Nancy Roberts

Obituary of Nancy Jane Roberts

Nancy Jane Roberts (Bruneau) passed away peacefully on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with her husband and daughter by her side. She was 87 years old.

Nancy, the eldest of three children, was born to Richard and Mary Jane Bruneau in Detroit, Michigan on November 20, 1934. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Michigan in 1957, Nancy embarked on a career as a psychiatric nurse. She married Dr. Richard “Dick” Roberts shortly after her graduation and refocused her energy on raising six children in Sylvania, Ohio in a home that was filled with good food and laughter. Dick and Nancy moved to Daufuskie Island, South Carolina after their retirement and lived the last two years in the Tidepointe community on Hilton Head Island. During her decades in Ohio, followed by her many years on Daufuskie Island, Nancy maintained a vigorous social life. On Daufuskie, she enjoyed long lunches with friends after a round of golf. She also greatly anticipated her regular involvement in her book club, the historical society, the bridge club, and as a member of Daufuskie Farm. Nancy’s playful sense of humor and joy for living brightened every group she was a part of.

Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter. The pride and love she felt for her family defined her. Her family and friends will always treasure memories of her easy smile, her twinkling eyes, her generous heart, and precious time spent in her company.

Nancy is survived by her husband; her sister Mary Lou Berg; five children (Steve, Pam, Kevin, Lisa, and David), their respective spouses; and 16 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her son Christopher; and her brother Richard Bruneau.

There are no planned services at this time.
