Ruth Dyrda formerly of Elkhorn, Nebraska died May 1st, 2023 surrounded by her daughters in Hilton Head Island, SC.
Mrs. Dyrda was born January 9, 1943 in Grants Pass, Oregon to her parents Florence and Loren Harper. After high school, she entered the air force and traveled to Oklahoma, where she was introduced to the love of her life. She left the military, and she married Joseph Dyrda, Jr. September 5th, 1964. Her husband served in the Army. While stationed in Ft. Bragg, NC she had her firstborn, Yvonne. After his army service concluded, they moved back to Omaha, where she had their next three children.
Once her children were all entered in elementary school, Mrs. Dyrda spent her time working for various bakeries in the Omaha area, and tending her gardens. In 2006 Mrs. Dyrda moved to Bluffton, SC to be closer to her middle daughter and her grandkids.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Elkhorn, NE. When she moved, she joined St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton, SC. Her Catholic faith was important to her, and she was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior.
Mrs. Dyrda is survived by her sister Jean Lindh in Oregon, her daughter Yvonne Dyrda, and her spouse Charis Wagner of Oakland, CA, her daughter Annette Gilman and husband Doug of Hilton Head Island, SC, her daughter Meredith Thomsen of Bluffton, SC, her daughter in law Rachel Dyrda, and 4 grandsons, and one granddaughter. Along with nieces, nephews, cousins and brother- in laws and their wives, who all loved her dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jr., her son Joseph III, her parents, and all her brothers.
Mrs. Dyrda, along with her son, will be buried next to her husband in a graveside ceremony later this summer. Island Funeral Home and Reichmuth Funeral Home are handling arrangements. Islandfuneralhome.com and reichmuthfuneralhomes.com.
