Sandra Kuttruff

Obituary of Sandra Kay Kuttruff

The Heavenly Choir has gotten a new soprano.

Sandra (Sandy) Kuttruff passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023, in Hilton Head, SC. She was 81. Sandy was born in Parkersburg West Virginia June 9, 1941, to Jack and Sylvia Garvin. She lived in Rocky River Ohio, then moved to Philadelphia as a teenager. She began singing in church groups at an early age and in school choirs both in Ohio and in Philadelphia.
Sandy met her future husband Bill, when both worked at General Electric in Valley Forge, PA and were married in 1962. They raised two boys in North Wales, PA. She was the family glue that held things together while quietly helping Bill get his college degree- all this while working as a bank teller.
Sandy was so very proud of her sons and never missed any school or sports event they participated in, especially swimming and diving meets, where her trademark whistle would provide additional cheer and motivation.
A dedicated Philadelphia sports fan, Sandy was Larry Bowa’s biggest fan and was passionate about the Phillies and Eagles.
Singing was always her passion and she did so with a beautiful soprano voice singing in choirs and soloing at weddings and funerals.
Sandy also loved and looked forward to spending time and playing with her three grandchildren.
When she and Bill retired to Hilton Head, she continued singing with The Sweet Adeline’s, a women’s barbershop group, the Hilton Head Choral Society, St Andrews by The Sea and later, First Presbyterian Church choirs. She always said she wanted to come back as a lounge singer.
Sandy volunteered at the Bargain Box as a cashier for 15 years, where again she continued to naturally grow her circle of friends.
She was an excellent doubles tennis player playing socially and on teams from Country Club of Hilton Head and when she could no longer play tennis, you could find her doing water aerobics 3 or 4 times a week.
Sandy is survived by Bill ,her husband of 60 years; her son and daughter (in-law) Bill and Maria Kuttruff of Merion Station, PA; her son Steven of West Chester, PA; and three grandchildren; Leah, Juliana and Will Kuttruff.
