Obituary of Charles Slusne

Charles “Chuck” Slusne earned his heavenly wings on April 2, 2024, on Hilton Head Island, SC. He was 73 years of age.

Charles Slusne was born in Trenton, MI to parents Michael and Marie Slusne and raised in Riverview, MI. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Michigan State University with a degree in Personnel Management from the College of Business. He met his college sweetheart, Sharon “Shari”, while at Michigan State. Upon graduation, Chuck and Shari married and moved to Atlanta for warmer weather and jobs, staying for thirty years. After discovering Hilton Head Island on a church retreat in 1972, they knew one day it would be their forever home. They have lived on Hilton Head for twenty-four years.

Chuck spent over thirty years as a commercial insurance broker with Johnson & Higgins and Marsh McLennan in Atlanta. While in Atlanta, he was a member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church, Christ our Hope Lutheran Church, and Lutheran Church of the Incarnation. In 2000, Hilton Head Island was calling, and Chuck and Shari decided it was time for a change of scenery. Chuck desired to own a business and work for himself, so he purchased a local favorite Italian restaurant and subsequently a vacation home and villa rental business until his retirement in 2011.

Chuck was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head Island where he was an Elder and involved in various committees and Bible study groups. Chuck loved traveling and reading and never missed watching an Atlanta Braves or Michigan State game. He was a highly competitive tennis player, and his team once won the Atlanta Alta City Championship among other Division titles. In his own words, he was “deadly at the net!” While in Hilton Head, Chuck spearheaded taking the Michigan State game-watch group to an official alumni chapter and became their first president. Go Green!

Chuck was a devoted husband to Shari for fifty-two years, and a beloved father and Papa. He is survived by his wife Sharon; his daughter and son-in-law Kristin and Theodore Waldron; his daughter and son-in-law Blair and Joseph Bell; his four grandchildren Rhett, Sloane, Noah, and Sophia; his brother and sister-in-law Michael and Suzanne Slusne; sister Judith Pizzuti; and father-in-law Gene Pribble. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Marie Slusne and his brother John Slusne.

A memorial for Chuck will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head Island on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 2 pm. Reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
