Obituary of Joy Annette Weir

Joy Annette Weir succumbed to her fight with cancer on December 8, 2018.  She was surrounded by her family when she went home to her savior.

Annette was born on October 7, 1938, in Halls, Tennessee.  The third child of four children, born to Hazel and Clarence Jones.  She was adored by her siblings.

Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1950’s during the time when Elvis was King, Annette was swept off her feet by the love of her life Jackie Allen Weir.

Together, Annette and Jack raised their three children Vicki, Jason and LeAnn.

Jack’s career took them from Memphis, Tennessee, to Waynesboro and Richmond, Virginia, then Wilmington, Delaware.  Finally the two retired in their favorite place here on Hilton Head Island.

Annette, the matriarch of the Weir Clan, was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  No-one could resist her beautiful face that first lured you in with the twinkle in her eyes and that infectious smile.  Not only a pretty face, Annette was a fabulous cook, seamstress, gardener, tennis player and homemaker.  Most of all, her friends and family will always remember her for her legendary dance skills.

Annette was preceded in death by her parents Hazel and Clarence Jones, baby sister Mary Jane Jones and granddaughter Heather Lynn Weir.

She is survived by her devoted husband Jack, eldest daughter Vicki Nixon and her husband Brian, son Jason Weir and his wife Denise, youngest daughter LeAnn Brewer and her husband Stephen, sisters Imogene Frye and Argaline Brewer, grandchildren Amanda Weir, Jackson and Charli Brewer, Paige Bruegger, great-grandson Kellen Bruegger and numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of her life will be at The Island Funeral Home on Hilton Head Island on Wednesday December 12, 2018.  Visitation begins at 10am with the service at 11am followed by graveside services at Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines Plantation.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the American Cancer Society.
