Obituary of Robert Wilson Moore

Robert Wilson Moore died peacefully at home on January 30, 2019.  Bob was born on December 8, 1931 in San Francisco, CA to Calvin and Sara Moore.  He leaves behind, his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Buck Moore and daughters Elizabeth Burns (Steve), Sara Nunn (Tim), and Rebecca Hamlin (David).  He is survived as well by his grandchildren, Carolyn Winston (Matt); Ian Mixon; Sara Catherine Marshall (James); Leah McGowan (Andrew); Danielle Nunn; Marguerite Hamlin and Edwin Hamlin; and by great-grandchildren: Thomas Marshall and Emily, Harrison, and Charlie McGowan.  Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen.

 

Bob was raised in Maplewood, NJ, and graduated with honors in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University in PA.  Bob enjoyed a successful, 34 year career with The DuPont Company, living in Charleston, WV; Orange, TX; and Wilmington, DE.  Bob’s responsibilities throughout his time at DuPont included assignments in Manufacturing, Sales, Domestic and International Marketing, Research and Planning. 

 

While living in Wilmington, Bob was in leadership roles at St. David’s Episcopal Church as well as the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware.  For many years, Bob, Carolyn and family enjoyed summers at their cottage on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.  Bob & Carolyn retired to Hilton Head Island, SC in 1987 where Bob became active at All Saints Episcopal Church, serving as Senior Warden, Stewardship Chairman, Lay Eucharist Minister, and was a long-time member of the Choir.  His community service included: Chairman of the Hilton Head Planning Commission, Chairman of the Community Foundation of the Low Country, President of the Port Royal Landowners Association and member of The Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra Board.  When Bob wasn’t on the golf course, he and Carolyn enjoyed extensive travel and countless visits by family and friends, from both near and far.  

 

A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, Hilton Head, SC on Friday, February 8th, at 3 PM. The burial will be private.
