Linda DuRegger

Obituary of Linda M DuRegger

Despite the valiant efforts of the doctors and nurses of Hilton Head Regional Hospital to save her following a catastrophic arterial plaque rupture, Linda died late Monday afternoon, March 4, 2019. Her husband Dave was at her side. She was a young 70 year old without any history of heart problems.

Linda was born July 9, 1948, in Oakland, California, the only child of Claud Masell (Mac) McCullar, of El Dorado, AR, and Elizabeth (Betty) Hope Johnson of Brooking, OR.

Her parents made their home in the San Francisco Bay Area, residing in Oakland, San Francisco, Hayward and San Leandro. Her father was a nuclear piping engineer at Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco. Her mother was a former Navy officer and registered nurse (RN). She attended public schools in Hayward, graduating in 1966 from Mt Eden High School and went on to attend Chabot College and Cal-State, Hayward. After she was married she worked as a bank teller for The Bank of California in San Francisco and Wells Fargo Bank in the East Bay to get Dave through college before turning her limitless talents to full time mother and homemaker.

Linda and Dave were high school sweethearts. They met at a high school dance in October 1963 when they were 15-year-old sophomores and still had to rely on their parents for a ride to the dance. They were married in San Leandro September 21, 1968. They grew up together learning and helping each other along the way. In 2018 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Charleston, SC.

Dave left school when their first child, Jason, was born in 1971 to go to work for Bechtel. Rob was born in 1974 and Amy in 1982. Working for Bechtel required Linda and her family to move the household, cats, dogs and all, so she experienced life not only in the SF Bay Area but in Chicago, IL, Augusta, GA, Las Vegas, NV, Knoxville, TN, Lexington, KY and Santa Fe, NM, before coming to Hilton Head Island in 2013 for a well earned retirement.

Linda was a fierce but gentle defender of her personal rights and those of her family. She was a stealthy instructor in the way things should be. She loved her children intensely, unconditionally and worried incessantly. Meals were always at the dinner table. Clean clothes, hands and faces were a must. Handling all the trials and tribulations of raising two teenage boys and a mentally challenged daughter. She loved to laugh, sleep in on the weekends, go to the movies and eat popcorn, go out to eat even if it was just McDonalds, shop for clothes, especially frilly dresses for Amy when she was young. She loved “nest feathering” activities, which included HGTV, shopping, decorating and remodeling projects with Dave. She liked streaming and binge watching period pieces on TV, playing bridge with friends or spider solitaire on her phone. She loved boating when the kids were little and laying out at the beach. Mostly she and Dave went out of their way to make sure they were always together regardless of what it was they were doing. They were and are inseparable.

Linda is survived by:

  • Husband David J DuRegger of Hilton Head Island, SC.
  • Son Jason C DuRegger, his wife Barbara, daughter Megan and son Jake of Charleston, SC.
  • Robert M DuRegger, daughter Ava Mae and her mother Sydney Kelemen of Lexington, KY.
  • Daughter Amy Boudette DuRegger of Hilton Head Island, SC.
  • Her Havanese lap dog, Bella Marie
  • And, of course, family and friends spread all across the country.

She will be missed deeply.
