John Murray Connors, Jr.

 

John Murray Connors, Jr., 88, of Hilton Head Island, SC died Sunday, June 21, 2020.

John was born in Rock Island, IL, January 5, 1932, the son of the late John Murray and Cathryn McCarthy Connors. He was a graduate of Bradley University.  His career was spent working for Philips/Magnavox and prior to that for the Department of Defense. John was a four-year veteran with the US Air Force.

John moved to Hilton Head Island In 1994 having previously lived in Peoria, LaGrange, and Urbana, IL, Arlington and Leesburg, VA. and Fort Wayne, IN. He was a member of St Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. In his retirement he worked as a starter/ranger at Moss Creek.  John fully enjoyed being with family, friends, neighbors and never met a stranger he didn’t like always conversing, caring and enjoying life with a laugh and smile.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Ruhaak Connors whom he married in Peoria in 1956, four sons: James (Beth) of Louisville KY, Kevin of Wellesley MA , J. Michael (Angela) of Nashville TN, and Timothy (Wendy) of Atherton CA, two daughters: Cathryn (Ray)  Albrecht of Heath TX, Maureen (David) Fraser of Collierville, TN.:  twenty-eight grandchildren: Elizabeth (Chris) Sanders, Melissa, David (Addie) and Michelle Asher:  Joshua (Elizabeth), Joseph (Kara), Zachary, Allison, Jacob, and Molly Connors:   Michael (Mary Beth) Albrecht, Jennifer (Sam) Holloway, Kelli (Kenny) Moore, and Ryan Albrecht:   Erin, Patrick, Mimi and Robert Connors:   Brittany, Andrew, and Abigail Fraser:  Sarah, John Murray IV (Clare), Charles and Mary Helen Connors:  Emma, Grace, and  Gretchen Connors.:  ten great grandchildren: Benjamin and Margot Albrecht, Faith, Theodore, and Franklin Moore, Henry and Norah Asher, Oliver Connors, Vincent Holloway, Catherine Sanders:  his sister , Joan Connors of Phoenix, AZ and his sister in law, Gail Connors (wife of Mike) of Tucson, AZ and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son John Murray Connors III, and his daughter Margaret Mary (Marti) Asher:  two brothers:  Michael and Patrick Connors, two sisters:  Florence Riley and Kathleen Connors, and his nephew, Patrick Connors.

Due to Covid 19, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis by the Sea for the family.
