Obituary of Louis J. Marchiante

Louis J. Marchiante, 92, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020.  Born June 1, 1928 in White Plains, NY he retired to Hilton Head Island for 29 years before moving to Charleston, SC in 2018. 

 

Lou proudly served in WWII, earning a Victory Medal and received an Honorable Discharge. Afterwards, he was offered an appointment to West Point, however, chose to attend St. Lawrence University and then Drexel University where he earned a Masters’ Degree in Industrial Management. He retired from The Equitable after a long career having previously worked for RCA Corporation and Allied Chemical Corporation. While at Equitable he received the company’s prestigious Hall of Fame Medal, “Never In All The Proud Years of Equitable’s Future Will These Names Be Lost From Memory.”

 

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying skiing, hunting, boating, golf, and carpentry. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home.  In his youth he was active in Boy Scouts earning the title of Eagle Scout.  While a resident of Sea Pines Plantation in Hilton Head he was proud to have volunteered for many years at the Annual Heritage Golf Tournament as Chairman of the Marshalls Committee.

 

Survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred Marchiante, daughters Debra Clark and Barbara Servetas, and grandchildren Nicholas, Anjelika and Michael Servetas. A Memorial Mass will be held April 14th at 11:45am  at Holy Family Catholic Church and private burial at St. Francis by the Sea. The family has set up a Memorial Fund in Lou’s honor with The Heritage Classic Foundation, Champions Fore Charity to benefit Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity.
