Obituary of Thomas Richard Kaupas

Thomas Richard Kaupas, age 84, died at Hilton Head Hospital on February 5, 2022, after a long battle with health issues.

Tom was born to Mary and Witold Kaupas in Burlington N.J. As a child, Tom excelled in baseball and football, and earned a basketball scholarship to Juniata College. After graduation, Tom married the love of his life, Joanne Gollnick.

Tom was a Navy Aviator who served this nation proudly for 24 years including three tours to Vietnam flying A-6 Intruder aircraft (bombardier/navigator).  Retiring a Commander, Tom earned many medals during his service.

After retiring, Tom and Joanne moved to Northern Virginia where Tom worked for DCS Corp. as a senior vice president before retiring to Hilton Head, SC. An avid golfer, Tom loved his home overlooking the golf course.

Tom is survived by his loving wife Joanne, children Thomas Jr. (Cathy) and Suzanne, grandchildren David, Joseph, Christine, Grace, Thomas and Jack, brother Robert (Barbara), sister Elaine, brothers-in-law Michael and William, sister-in-law Peggy, many nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Tom was loved by many for his generosity, integrity, and sense of humor. Tom travelled the world with his wife of 60 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held February 26 at noon at Holy Family Catholic Church in Hilton Head with a reception to follow in the church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Arthritis Foundation.
