Obituary of Regina "Jean" Vanagel

Regina “Jean” Vanagel, 94, died on February 17, 2022. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Alex, on March 18, 2015. Jean was born on September 30, 1927, in Stratford, CT, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Firmender.

Jean enjoyed a short professional career as a secretary with the Crane Co. and later as an assistant to dentist Dr. Greenberg, both in Bridgeport CT. However, her true vocation was a loving homemaker, dedicated wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and caregiver to her loved ones in need. Jean and Alex retired to Florida in 1982 and relocated to Hilton Head to be closer to family in 2009, where she resided at Indigo Pines until 2021.

She is survived by her three children, Diane (Erich) Blum of Otelfingen, Switzerland, Mark of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Greg (Diane) of Eagle River, Alaska, her beloved grandchildren Matthew, Jake, and Ellen, and her sister Ann DeSanti.

A mass of Christian Burial will be on February 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice supporting those living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
