Obituary of Miriam C. Kursawe

Miriam C. Kursawe, 97, passed away February 21, 2023 on Hilton Head Island, SC.  She was born December 1, 1925 in Bronx, NY.  She was the daughter of Ernest and Carrie Meier of New York.  Miriam was a resident of Monroe, CT for 69 years.  She was a long-time member of the Good Shepard Lutheran Church where she served on many committees with the Altar Guild being her most beloved.  She was active in Monroe, involving herself in many volunteer activities throughout the community. She was a teacher at the Step-a-Way school at Stepney Baptist Church. Miriam enjoyed an active life.  She had a passion for needlepoint and was a member of the Needlepoint Guild of Connecticut and an avid crocheter making countless blankets for family and friends.  She enjoyed other activities such as golf, bowling, gardening, walking with friends, painting, reading, playing Mahjong and card games.

Miriam predeceased her husband Hans “Jack” Kursawe, her brother Arthur Meier and sister Carol Macnamara both of New York.  She is survived by her sister Joan Savin of Florida, son Robert and partner Chrissy of Harwinton CT, son John and wife Brenda of Hilton Head SC, and several nieces and nephews.  She loved her grandchildren – Megan, Sean, Brian and Meg and adored her great grandchildren-Quinn, Paul and Nathan along with her great nieces Rachael and Kate. She will truly be missed but her legacy of love and compassion for family and friends will live on forever.

Interment will be private.  Donations in her name may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Monroe CT.
