Obituary of Walter F. Stone, Jr.

Walter F. (Wally) Stone, Jr., a resident of The Seabrook of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away on April 29, 2023 at Hilton Head Hospital. He was born in 1927 in Grove City, PA. He married Ginger, his high school sweetheart, and moved to Sharon, PA. A change in jobs took them to Cleveland, OH, then Stow, OH.

He retired after 27 years as a Marketing Representative for Sherwin Williams and moved to Sea Pines Plantation, Hilton Head Island in 1987 and resided there for 18 years. From there, they moved to Sun City for ten years, then moved to The Seabrook in 2015.

Mr. Stone was the son of the late Elma (Gills) and Walter F. Stone, Sr. of Mercer, PA.  He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginger) Stone; a son, Kim Stone (Ann), of Globe, AZ and a daughter, Jill McKinney (Randall), of Massillon, OH.  He was preceded in death by another daughter, Christy Sedberry (James) of Houston, TX.  He also leaves six grandchildren, Taylor Stone and Connor Stone, Kelsey McKinney Spreainde and Randy McKinney, Jamie Sedberry Malone and Amber Sedberry Wann, and seven great grandchildren, Chloe, Austin, Abrianna, Analeigh, Charlie, Logan, and Charlie Rose. A brother, Thomas Stone, is deceased.

Mr. Stone was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he served in the Pacific Theater.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head and was a choir member for many years.  He also was an active member of the Hilton Head Barbershop Harmony Society for many years and sang bass with several quartets.

He was a member of Sea Pines Country Club where he was two-time Club golf champion and two-time President’s Cup golf champion.   

Interment was at Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines, Hilton Head.
