Obituary of Carol Jones Malick

   Carol Jones Malick, 81, June bride in 1983 of Dennis Malick, died peacefully Sunday the 2nd at The Preston Health Center. Carol and Dennis celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on June 12.

   She was a certified tennis instructor and through the years worked in the pro shops at Van der Meer Tennis, Sea Pines, Port Royal and Spring Lake racquet clubs. She was president of TennisAction Hilton Head Island, the tennis events company operated by her husband that developed Spring Break Tennis, The Banana Open, the BillyBob Century Cup Doubles and Tennis E-News.

   Born in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Marjorie Jones of Norfolk, VA.

   Surviving are the three children by her first husband: son, Bill (Kathy) of Marietta, GA: daughters, Susan (Jackie) and Selden (John), both of Virginia Beach, VA, and brother Nat (Barbara) of Petersburg, VA. Also surviving are six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    A private family service for Carol Jones Malick, 81, a resident of The Cypress who died July 2, will be held in Virginia Beach, VA at a later date.

   A 1958 tennis tournament in Virginia Beach raised funds to re-roof the S.P.C.A. shelter next to the Owl’s Creek Tennis Center. Also, it was where Carol met husband-to-be Dennis, who created the event. This past June 12, the couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
