Obituary of Erik Reid Sandin

Erik Reid Sandin, a native of Atlanta, GA passed away unexpectedly on July 7th, 2023, his 42nd birthday.  He was struck by a car while jogging on the morning of July 4th near his parents’ home in Hilton Head Island, SC.  He succumbed to his injuries three days later in the hospital in Savannah, GA.

Erik was born on July 7, 1981, in Atlanta, GA to Ken and Tammy Sandin.  He grew up in Sandy Springs, GA where he attended Riverwood High School.  In 2003, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Furman University in Greenville, SC with a double major in Business Administration and History.  In 2011, he earned an MBA from Georgia Tech, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.  He was employed by The Home Depot for 11 years and was a Senior Manager in their Supply Chain division at the time of his death.  Erik was a hard worker with an incredible work ethic, which was instilled in him by his parents at an early age.  He had high expectations of himself and did everything to perfection.

Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Erik knew that he had an incredible mind.  He had a thirst for knowledge that he fed through his many interests and hobbies.  Whether it be reading or teaching himself how to play the guitar and banjo, Erik was always busy improving himself.

Erik was an avid outdoorsman.  He could often be found in the North Georgia mountains hiking with his wife and children or hunting deer or turkey with his father-in-law and friends.  If he wasn’t in the mountains, he could be found fishing the waters of Hilton Head Island, something he enjoyed doing since he was a boy with his parents and brother.

Erik was an athlete and was always testing his limits and improving himself.  He enjoyed running and swimming, but his favorite hobby was soccer, a love he shared with his daughter Alexis.

Erik’s greatest love, however, was his family.  He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his wife Jamie and his children Sawyer and Alexis in the places he enjoyed.  He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and son and a warm and undemanding friend.  He had a witty sense of humor and a smile and sparkle that could light up a room. He leaves a great void among the people that loved him.  He will be missed dearly.

Erik leaves behind his wife Jamie Morrison Sandin and two young children Sawyer and Alexis Sandin.  He is also survived by his parents Kenneth John Sandin and Tamsin Stearns Sandin, his brother and sister-in-law Brett and Kat Sandin and niece Mae Sandin, his in-laws Rex and Andrea Morrison, three aunts and three cousins.
