Shirley Lucas

Obituary of Shirley Ann Lucas

Shirley Ann (Lundquest) Lucas of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away at her home on Thursday, June 14, 2023.  She was born on May 21, 1948.  Originally from Riddlesburg, PA Shirley spent most of her life in the Shippensburg, PA area and then retired to her home in Hilton Head where she was a member of the Providence Presbyterian Church.  She was the daughter of Ruth P. (Andre) Lundquest and the late Reginald A. Lundquest.

Shirley was a graduate of Tussey Mountain High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Shippensburg Teachers College and her Master’s Degree in Education from Shippensburg College.  Shirley taught first grade in the Cumberland Valley School District for 37 years and loved working with her students.

Her greatest joys were her twin 7-year-old grandchildren, Ryan and Haley Lucas.  One of her dreams was to be a grandmother, and Grammy loved her grandchildren dearly at every opportunity.  They reside in Oakton, VA with Shirley’s son, Nathan, and his wife, Amber.

Additional surviving family members are her two nieces; Gaynell R. Boor and husband, George, of Huntingdon, and Rosemary L. Bruce and husband, Tony, of New Cumberland; and a great nephew, Scott A. Bruce and wife, Stephanie, of Wellsville, and their children Cody Nelson and Sierra.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her family and friends, though we look to the impact she had on our lives and are stronger for having known and loved her.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to either the Hopewell United Methodist Church (672 Christian Street, Hopewell, PA 16650), or the Providence Presbyterian Church (171 Cordillo Pkwy, Hilton Head, SC 29928).

A celebration of life service will be held at the Hopewell United Methodist Church on September 30th, 2023 at 11:30 AM.
