The extended family of Tom through Nannita sends our condolences. But even more important is that we share that Tom was a wonderful man and it was our privilege to know him.
Tom was a kind and gentle man who treated all with respect and dignity. His mischiveous smile always lit up the room whether it was while eating ice cream or talking about the Packers or Wisconsin athletics. He was always interested to hear about what was going on in our family's lives and expressed constant care and concern over everyone's well being.
In particular, my mother Nannita felt Tom's love every day and returned it in kind. They had so much fun traveling together and enjoying their time on Hiltohn Head Island.
Tom was wonderful to his adopted grandchildren and talked about Katie, Caroline, Henry, and Heather constantly.
My own son Thor received abundant love and affection from Tom. Thor called him Grandpa Tom and loved talking sports with him.
Brother Tim also liked talking sports with Tom, the Packers in particular. Tom enjoyed some vicarious stories about trips to Lambeau as well as talking about the good old days in Madison prep sports.
My wife Kristen and I personally were the benefit of time with Tom, enjoying dinner together, laughing over the foibles of humanity and cooking chicken Marsala.
I was able to spend a bit more time with Tom and Nannita through the years and have many fond memories. The OakCrest tavern, cheese curds, Spotted Cows, the WSJ opinion page, Frankie Bones, pizza. But the thing that I will carry with me is that I shared some time with a man who was simply and honestly a truly nice and good person. For that I am very lucky and will carry that memory with me always.
