Obituary of John Ansel Sawyer

John Ansel Sawyer passed away at his home in Hilton Head, SC surrounded by his 

family after a long illness. He was born in Berlin, NH to Douglas and Edna Sawyer and along with his sister, grew up in Ridgefield, CT.

 

A proud graduate of Lehigh University, John went on to join the Army serving in Vietnam. He moved to New York City to become a well-regarded commodities trader as well as a mentor to many.

 

John enjoyed tennis, golf and skiing and was an avid New York Giants fan.  But his first

love was sailing. He and his family moved to Southport, CT where they sailed "Girouette" from Maine to the Grenadines with family and friends.  John was a member of the New York Yacht Club and Pequot Yacht Club.

 

He is survived by his wife Margaret of 42 years and his son John Jr. and his wife Corinne Warren.

 

He had many wonderful friends who helped him along the way and is thankful for their continued friendships.

 

A family memorial service is planned for the New Year.
