Obituary of Phillip Edgar Wright

Phillip “Phil” Edgar Wright, 78, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, passed away on February 24, 2024. He was born on March 6, 1945, in West Point, Georgia.

Phil, a Vietnam veteran, served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973, reaching the rank of Captain. After the military, he experienced a successful career in banking, retiring as President of SunTrust Bank Hilton Head Island (now Truist) after a 34-year career. He also held executive positions with SunTrust in Georgia, New York, Florida, Washington DC, and Virginia.

Phil graduated from West Point High School in Georgia, furthered his education at the University of Georgia for his undergraduate studies and earned his MBA from the University of Utah while stationed in Europe with the military.

In his free time, Phil enjoyed golf, fishing, and music.  His service to the community ranged from the Hilton Head and Jacksonville Florida United Way board of directors to serving as president of the Jacksonville Symphony Guild.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Wright, his children Andrew (Hunter) Wright and Tim (Niki) Wright, his grandchildren Sawyer, Bennett, George, Brady, and Cate, as well as his brothers Wallace and Ben.
