Frances and Family,
Sonny was a born leader. I was not at all surprised that he became CEO of a major Electric Power company.. At the same time he was just a regular, down-to-earth person. He was really a great human being. I know you're going to miss him so much. Best wishes to all of you. Miller Whisnant

I remember Cecil gently correcting me as young writer at REC when I used "that" instead of "who" to begin a descriptive phrase after the word "employees." He explained "that" is for inanimate objects and "who" is for people. It was more than a grammar lesson; it was a life lesson. People were always Cecil's priority, at the Cooperative, in the community, and in life. Lora and I share our sincerest condolences with the family.

I was saddened to learn about Cecil's passing. We first met shortly after we were born in Asheboro, NC where our parents were good friends. After moving to Lenoir our families reacquainted and Cecil and I attended Lenoir High School together and later NC State. We then located in different sections of the Country but I always enjoyed renewing our friendship when we both could attend class reunions. Cecil was just a class person - a gentleman for sure. Rest in peace Cecil - you are a worthy role model! We celebrate your life.

A true southern gentleman who I always had the utmost respect for and feel very fortunate to have known and worked for him at REC. He always spoke to everyone and called them by name. In a time now when it seems CEO’s are more concerned with their own ego and image, Cecil was always about the employees and the members.
