I met Christina through friends ( The Giffords) in 2016 and when Hurricane Matthew hit Hilton Head Island in that year resulting in a mandatory evacuation , Christina invited my husband and I to go and stay at her sister’s lake house in Anderson along with the Giffords and another couple the McGlothlins. We all jokingly referred to this as our enforced vacation. We had a hoot for a whole week and firm friendships were cemented. Christina even slept on the sofa so that we all had a bedroom each.
I enjoyed many games of golf with Christina after that and as a new golfer she was very patient with me and helpful. We also enjoyed many a time in the 19th hole.
Christina came to speak about her book at one of our book club meetings, that was very memorable.
We lost touch when we moved back to the UK in 2019 but still kept contact with occasional Facebook messages. I added a photo of us taken the night before we left.
Christina was one in a million and I am sure she will be missed by all her friends. Condolences to all the family, you lost a good ‘un

Cole, I am so very sorry to hear of your mother‘s passing. My deepest condolences to you. I know you will miss her greatly.
I met Christina shortly after Gordon and I arrived in Zanesville in 1990. I believe you were in high school looking at Denison at the time. we had both seen each other a few different days on the practice tee at Zanesville Country Club and had been hitting balls that day for sometime when she walked over and said “I can only do this for so long. Wanna play nine?”
I knew she was the club champion and lowest female handicap there and I was nervous as could be to play with her, but that was the beginning of a seven-year very close friendship. And with all that practice and playing and coaching from Christina, my handicap dropped to my lowest ever – 17! We played together, laughed together, talked spirituality, and sometimes cried together.
Christina could be tough as nails, and that’s the side she let most people see in her, but underneath she had the softest heart ever. One that most never saw. She just did not expose that side of herself to very many. I always felt I knew a part of her that most of her closest longtime friends never knew.
We left Zanesville in 1998 when Gordon retired for health reasons and Christina and I kept in touch for years, then slowly drifted apart. But when Gordon passed four years ago, she was on the phone as soon as she heard, and later sent pictures she had taken during our years in Zanesville.
Your mother was a champion in so many ways both on and off the golf course. She was most definitely one of a kind, and I will always love her for being the very first person in Zanesville to reach out to me, and for the best golfing years of my life, but most of all for the genuine friendship that we shared.
So here’s to you, Christina, my friend! May you rest in peace.
